Warwick First Lady Chardonnay

The First Lady range of wines are a tribute to Norma Ratcliffe. The founder and first winemaker at Warwick estate and of the first women to make wine in South Africa. This wine is the exception to the rule for many that do not enjoy Chardonnay. It is elegantly crafted to highlight the amazing fruit and texture of Chardonnay. The grapes are picked in the early hours of the morning to retain freshness and aromatics. De-stemmed and crushed straight to the press with no skin contact. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and 8% of the wine is fermented in oak to add some depth to the palate. After fermentation the wine is kept on the lees for 100 days before blending and bottling in August 2019.                                                                                                                                                                                Green apple and pear flavours burst forth from the glass, accompanied by pineapple and grapefruit undertones. On the tongue, there are apple and lime aromas, as well as a creamy mouthfeel and a zesty citrus finish.
